August is Missions Month!

Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

August is missions month at Bethel Baptist church, we are an Acts 1:8 church we attempt to live out the command that Jesus gave in this verse.

On 2 occasions this summer our Brotherhood has worked locally to help replace the roof on homes where the homeowner could not afford the labor.

We have had church members to go and be a part of missions efforts to 3 different states as well as the country of Panama.

During the month of August beginning on Sunday evening August 8th we will be sharing how God allowed us to serve him on the mission field.

*Sunday August 8th @ 7:00 pm we will hear from some folks who were part of a church building team in Dewey Oklahoma.

*Sunday August 15th @ 7:00 pm we will hear from our youth about their mission trip to Pascagoula Mississippi.

*Sunday August 22nd @ 7:00 pm will be a time of sharing about our trip to Panama.

*Sunday August 29th @ 7:00pm we will hear about missions and ministry opportunities in
California.

Quick Update from Panama

We arrived safely in Panama on Wednesday! Our plane was delayed on Tuesday, so we flew out on Wednesday around noon to Atlanta and then on to Panama City, Panama. We are being absolutely blessed by the work that God is doing here in Panama! We have been very busy with all kinds of ministering, from prayer walking, door to door evangelism, and children's actvities. So far four have given their hearts to Christ!!!!

So here are a few pictures until we get home and are able to share more! Buenos dias!

Youth Mission Trip to Pascagoula, Mississippi

Bethel's youth along with our Pastor and Youth Pastor have been in Pascagoula, Mississippi since Saturday. From what we hear they have been having a wonderful week so far in ministering, witnessing, and having some amazing "God" moments!

They have handed out over 200 Bibles so far!

Brother Kenny shared this last night:

"Four members of this mission team in Pascagoula will also be part of a team that will be serving in the country of Panama in the city of David. At our park ministry in Pascagoula tonite a young lady who is originally from David, Panama sat down next to one of our team members who will be part of the Panama team. God is so... good. We had a wonderful conversation and time of fellowship with this precious lady!"

Only God could make such an arrangement!

We are all excited to see all of the blessings from this mission trip!

Mother/Daughter Brunch May 1, 2010

The ladies at Bethel Baptist Church enjoyed our Annual Mother/Daughter Brunch on May 1.

Our theme was "Sanctity of Human Life" and our guest speaker was Chris Jolly. I love Chris dearly and she is a sweet Sister in Christ and a great speaker.

Easter Weekend

Our celebration for Easter started Friday with our Good Friday service. There was a great crowd there that wanted to worship the Lord and praise His Name!

On Saturday afternoon we held an Easter egg hunt, but beforehand our youth pastor, Larry David shared the story of the Resurrection Eggs and about Jesus' love for all mankind.

This was taken on Easter morning during our children's dismissal for children's church. This is when the children bring their offerings up for our "Change for Souls" offering that goes towards different things each month. It is a favorite part of our morning worship service!

We were extremely blessed with a great weekend of celebrating the Hope that we can only find in Jesus!

Palm Sunday Easter Program

Services with Northside Baptist Church

Sunday evening Bethel moved our services over to Northside Baptist in Mt. Vernon! Bro. Kenny was preaching both services and we had a wonderful time worshipping with our fellow family in Christ! Here are a few pictures from our evening:

The Youth performed their "Set Me Free" drama. Very powerful and everyone was very touched by the message! When the sins and temptations of this world drag us down and we don't feel like there is any hope left we need to turn to Jesus! Our ONLY Hope!!!

The choir blessed us with some great songs also!

It was a great service and Northside blessed us tremondously with our fellowship meal afterwards! We are looking forward to having their church family be a part of our Sunday April 11th evening service! Come out and join us!

WMU Ornament Exchange

On December 11, the WMU had our annual Christmas Ornament Exchange. These pictures will tell you how much fun we had! There were 21 of us, counting baby girls, young girls, young women, and oldER women! The way it works is, everyone brings an ornament, wrapped or in a gift bag, and puts it under the tree. We draw numbers from 1 to ever how many girls are there. Number 1 goes first and picks whichever ornament she wants...number 2 can take number 1's gift or pick one from under the tree. There is always one or two that everyone wants, so they get "taken" several times. It is all done in love and fun! In the picture below, Kaitlyn is trying to make up her mind whether or not to take Gladys' ornament.

We also had an amazing spread of "finger food"...

Everyone really liked the ornament that Madelyn got but no one had the heart to take it away from her :-)...She loved it! It made music...

We are always so thankful to God for our sisters in Christ and for all the good fellowship we share during our Ornament Exchange!

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

We held a very special service on December 20th where we took up a love offering for our Lottie Moon Christmas offering. This offering goes to support over 5000 southern baptist missionaries that are all over the world sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our goal for this years offering was $12,200 and the numbers got mixed up and $12,500 was put on our banner. Bro. Kenny announced last Sunday that we had met the $12,500 goal! Praise the LORD for allowing this offering to be given!
God is good ~ All the time!

Children in Action!

Our Children in Action group a couple of weeks before Christmas worked very hard on some beautiful CHRISTmas cards.

They made around 200 cards that were going to be given out to our sweet local nursing home residents. They were truly children in action for JESUS! Missionaries right in our own town.

Riding in the bus on the way to one of the nursing homes. One of the nursing homes were still concerned over illnesses so we dropped those cards off on Friday and let the nurses aids hand them out.

The children loved going from room to room wishing these precious residents a merry CHRISTmas!

We are very blessed at Bethel to have such a willing group of youth that loves to share the love of CHRIST!

The Perfect Story

We had our Christmas play during tonight's worship service and were very blessed! Everyone involved did a tremendous job glorifying God with their parts and their dedication. All of the audience definitely heard the story that truly matters this Christmas and that is "The Perfect Story" of how our Savior came into this world to give us the gift of Eternal Life!

Sunday night after our evening worship service we headed down to our fellowship hall for an ol' fashioned pie/dessert social! We had two tables full of delicious sweets!

After everyone had finished eating the Brotherhood presented Bro. Jimmy with a gift.

The WMU presented Sheila with a gift as well!

They are both dedicated servants of our Lord and bless our church family tremondously!

Tates Creek Baptist Association - Clear Creek Day

On Sunday November 15th our association held a Clear Creek Baptist Bible College Day. During the morning worship services eight current students from the college would be speaking in different churches in our association. For our Sunday morning worship service Evan Eckler brought us an encouraging word and a wonderful message. Please join us in praying for the students and staff at this college.

Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child

On Friday night Bethel's WMU got together, like they do every year, to put together shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.

These shoeboxes filled with small gifts, necessities, and covered in prayer will go to children all around the world. They will not only get these shoeboxes, but they'll get to hear about the best thing they could ever possibly hear about - and that is how much Jesus loves them!

Our Children in Action group was invited to help out with this mission's project and they gladly accepted!

Here are some of the boxes that were put together! Our grand total was 56 shoeboxes!

We had a great time of fellowship putting these precious gifts together!

4th Annual Ladies Night Out

Bethel Baptist Church held it's 4th annual Ladies Night Out tonight and was graciously hosted by our sister church Westside Baptist. We came together as sisters-in-Christ and had a tremendous time of fellowship and worship!

Bro. Kenny was there at the beginning to welcome all of the ladies.

After the greeting in the sanctuary we all headed to the fellowship hall for dinner.

The food was delicious and the fellowship was very sweet!

Youth's Mission Presentation

On Sunday evening September 27th our youth did a presentation about their mission trip to Mississippi in June.

To start the evening off our Pre-Teen Drama Team performed a few song interpretations.

During the week they held a backyard Bible school, helped serve food in a soup kitchen, did some performances of their skits, and many more wonderful things showing Christ's love.

Bro. Hamp also brought a certificate from the International Missionary Board and presented it to our church for being a top per capita donor to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering from 2008. To God be the glory!

Spoonbread Festival 2009

For Berea's Spoonbread Festival this year our church had a booth set up where we shared about the activities that our church takes part in and we made salvation bracelets to give away! We also handed out over 500 New Testament Bibles!!!

As we made the bracelets we were able to share the Gospel of Jesus! We were able to hand out over 600 bracelets.

On Saturday, September 12th our family at Bethel was hosted by our brother Jimmy Fritz down on the Kentucky River for a cookout and fellowship!

Our youth group is heading to Mississippi next week for a mission trip. During our evening service we as a church were able to watch the skits and dramas that they are going to be performing while on their trip. It was a very special service as we worshiped a Savior and commissioned this group of youth to go and be a witness!

On Saturday, May 30th our Tates Creek Baptist Association held a Family Fun Day at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Our youth participated by doing several activities. It was a wonderful day of fellowship in the Lord!!
